Turkey is the third largest producer of pistachios in the world. Gaziantep, in the southeast of the country near the Syrian border, is known for the quality of these fruits. The dry climate of the region is ideal for their culture.
It is mainly produced on the Black Sea coast, in the north of Turkish territory, as in the city of Akça Koca. The region benefits from a fairly mild winter season, and a cool summer, ideal for growing hazelnuts.
About 13,000 tonnes are produced each year. Almond exports amount to 8,000 tonnes. Rich in vitamins E, B2 and B3, almonds also contain many trace elements and minerals (magnesium, calcium and phosphorus).
The country is the leading producer and exporter of apricots. According to figures announced by the Malatya prefecture, 117,861 tonnes of dried apricots have been exported to around 100 countries. Rich in antioxidant vitamin A, iron, and potassium.
